Equity Centered Fundraising
What do you do?
Do you work hard and at the end of the day, still feel like you didn’t do enough? Do you feel like you are leaving money on the table? If there was one thing you could change or improve about your current fundraising strategy, what would it be? Do you ever say to yourself, if I just had a co-pilot or someone who was responsible for grants, fundraising and helping to build capacity, I could be better at my actual job?
If fundraising is stealing your focus, what do you think is the primary roadblock between where you currently are and your vision for the future?
What I do
Solving these challenges is what I do.
While you do your job, I’ll dig in and support your efforts. I have a unique process for finding grants and strategically pursuing them for the highest likelihood of success. As an equity-centered fundraising strategist, I develop fundraising approaches that centers racial equity, creates inclusive donor engagement strategies and challenges traditional fundraising paradigms. I prioritize community-driven solutions and shared power.
I help bridge the gap between nonprofit organizations/social enterprises and vital resources, transforming equity from a compliance checkbox into a strategic advantage.
My Services
Participatory Grant Writing
Participatory grant writing sessions allow my clients co-create proposals and work on program development while we do the grant vetting, research and long term planning. Grant project design includes developing measurable goals and objectives and can be designed to include tracking and reporting. Grant Roadmaps provide the top funding opportunities in the order in which to pursue grants and what you might need to do to become more competitive.
Community Based Philanthropy
Consulting Services is what ever you need it to be in order to help raise funds for your work. This can include equity audits for Community Centered Fundraising (CCF) approaches and funding ecosystem analysis, strategic planning for inclusive resource development or crating toolkits for systemic change in fundraising practices. It might mean help with putting together a fundraising committee, Board recruitment or event sponsorship and support.
Capacity Building and Trainings
Capacity building shows up in many ways in a nonprofit and careful consideration for the right people doing the right jobs is critical to the success of holistic growth. I offer trainings and workshops on grant writing, the principles and implementation of Community Centered Fundraising, Board development or anything you might need to grow your organization at a pace you can manage.
As a white woman on a never ending anti-racist journey and the first Development hire in a Black, female led organization, I learned how to fundraise in a community-centric way with a focus on breaking down systemic barriers in financial resources while emphasizing equity as a strategic advantage.
My mission is to empower underserved communities to achieve sustainable funding through transformative, community-centered approaches that recognize communities as experts in their own solutions. Flipping the donor-centric narrative to emphasize the communal aspect of fundraising and development will empower those with the smallest resources to have the biggest impact in their communities, effecting change on societies as a whole and rippling out to the world.
My vision for impact is to help create a paradigm shift in philanthropic funding by demonstrating that equitable funding resources lead to more effective and sustainable social change. By centering community expertise, IFS will help create pathways to new resources that enable clients to achieve organizational wholeness, self-sufficiency and lasting impact in their own communities.
